Next week is the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (June 20-22).
This conference is important for all of us involved in conservation initiatives as it focuses on renewing the political commitment for sustainable development. Also to be explored at the conference is an understanding of the key challenges and identifying gaps in implementation. Among this seven priority issues have been identified as the emphasis for conference discussions: Jobs (“green jobs”), energy, cities, food, water, oceans and disasters.
Keep a close eye on the outcomes from this event as it brings together thousands of people from governments, the private sector, charities and many other interest groups. It may very well provide the direction for what we will expect to see in the future for conservation.
