This Saturday is Earth Hour. Which means at 8:30pm you are encouraged to switch off your lights for one hour.
Earth Hour first started in Sydney, Australia in 2007 to take a stand against climate change. Since then it has spread to include up to 135 countries and has raised a great deal of awareness regarding sustainability. Last year the signs in Piccadilly Circus were turned off, along with the fountains in Trafalgar Square and the London Eye!
This year the challenges have increased with the “I will if you will” campaign where you can create your own challenge or accept one that has already been created.

While it is great to see how one single event managed to unite a global community who desired change, the purpose of Earth Hour is to extend the initiative beyond that one hour of switching off the lights.
Think about what you can do to live more sustainably, whether it is starting to recycle, using public transport or taking a reusable bag to the grocery store each week.
This Saturday commit to your own personal change by joining the rest of the environmentally conscious and switching off the lights for an hour.
