Tuesday 25th November 2025 - The period of concentrated work on the rotas assortment of wetland sites began today with a visit to Carew Manor Wetlands.
With a near full team of regulars out for the task there was plenty to keep the squad occupied especially on the island of the site.
Fallen trees and low hanging Willow boughs took the greater amount of the teams time allowing the brushcutter to carry out a unhindered clear to the islands grassland. The tree clearing also opened up the crossing of the island for easy traversal for the first time since the late Summer.
The last work of the day occurred in the stream and saw the gentle removal of leaf debris and dead Reeds to keep the flow open for another year and another bank spanning fallen tree being cut up from the near deepest part of the water way!
Thursday 20th November 2025 - Another ice cold start to the day but luckily the volunteers were deep inside the cocooning greenery of Roundshaw Woods West helping to keep some of the chill at bay.
Gearing up for an all out assault against the dominant pockets of Snowberry, the team made some significant headway in pushing a number of swathes back in various compartments of the site as well as tackling trailing Bramble and gathering a good haul of litter strewn in the undergrowth.
Tuesday 18th November 2025 - A Wintery chill hung in the air as a rounded squad of volunteers did battle with a barricade of Bramble at Cheam Rec.
With a spattering of drizzle at midday the team set about scalloping Bramble, uncovering a handful of (mainly self seeded) tree varieties swamped below and then carrying out selective felling and popping to them to get the site to a manageable state.
Sunday 16th November - It was a slightly chillier morning than we have been experiencing recently for the team that gathered for today's Task Day at Roundshaw Downs.
The morning's efforts will contribute to improving woodland structure through the clearing of bramble and thinning of self seeded saplings.
Thursday 13th November 2025 - With a good patch of brightness on another picturesque Autumnal day, todays band of volunteers re-assembled at Queen Marys Woodland.
Dividing the team into two spheres of activity another productive day was had with one group concentrating on vegetation control measures along the path to the West of the site and a spot of fence construction and re-arrangement to the South-East side.
Finishing the chestnut fencing for retaining the Sheep started about a month ago, the team also made a bit of a change to the fencing around the pond especially when you have a large Ivy clad tree threatening to fall right across it.
And then there was the Cowslip conundrum, pictured in the 3rd pic, was this specimen late for this years party or just very early for next years???
